It has to be admitted that women¡¯s role has been significantly enhanced and the majority of women in civilized society are enjoying equal treatment. Feminism is now a very important mentality which no one can ignore. But things are far from perfect. If women want to achieve true equality in every aspect of society, there is still a long way to go. For example, many prejudices against women still exist. Many parents long to have sons rather than daughters because they believe a son can stand for the power of the family. Another case is in the job market. Many companies and institutions never recruit female workers in the fear that women don¡¯t work as effectively as men do. News reports say that even some females with master¡¯s degree have great difficulty seeking employment. Worst of all, there are some deeply rooted misconceptions in some men¡¯s mind that women are a weak and inferior sex. All this shows that women are still discriminated against in many ways.

I think it¡¯s time something was done to cope with this phenomenon. On one hand, law must be made and enforced to ensure that women enjoy the same right and fair treatment. On the other hand, education should be strengthened to increase people¡¯s awareness of the importance of protecting women¡¯s rights. I am convinced that as long as we coordinate our efforts, we will have a more harmonious world in which men and women are truly equal and happy.
