As I see it, if a woman has given birth to a child, she should stay at home to take care of her child. It goes without saying that it is the natural biological function of a woman first to bring children into the world and then bring them up. However, the energy of a person is limited, so the pressure of the duel role---being a mother and being a professional---causes them to be in a dilemma. Often they are not able to become a good worker because of the heavy household chores. But then they cannot become virtuous wife and good mother because of the competition from the employment. The consequence is that they are mediocre at both. Moreover, with an increasing number of women returning home, there would be more job opportunities available for men, thus easing the pressing unemployment problem. Here I want to go further. I want to suggest that mothers working at home should be paid by the government in recognition of their contribution to society and family.
It is sad to see many young ladies unwilling or afraid to give birth to children. This, I think, is against human nature. Maybe these young married women are fearful of losing their job if they spend most of their time bringing up a child. But if our government does something to assist women in becoming a good mother, I think more and more women would be willing to give birth.

I think women should go out to work even when she has a family to take care of. There is a popular saying, ¡° you can¡¯t eat your cake and have it too¡±, which suggests that women are unlikely to achieve both roles---to be a mother and to be a working woman, but this is not true. First, everyone is born equal and enjoys the same rights, women are not born to be professional child-carers. Without a decent job, women would be dependent on their husband economically and would feel inferior to men. Through working, women can attain independence, equality and self-esteem. Secondly, husband and wife should share the responsibility of raising children. If husbands help out just wives do, it is very likely that women will go out to work and be effective. Life is filled with examples. There are many instances to prove that women have the ability to become the so-called supermom, one who strikes a balance between work and motherhood.
We are now living in a civilized and enlightened world, so it would be a shame to confine women to home and to refrain them from exhibiting their capabilities and realizing their potentials. No one can deny women are holding up half the sky.
