Compared with the public transportation system of just a few year ago, getting around in shanghai is not the hassle it used to be.
The current transportation system in shanghai is comprehensive: overhead, in addition to the Elevated Train, the Inner, Middle, and Outer Rings as well as YanĄŻan Viaducts have done much to the congested surface streets; underground, several Subway Lines have already been put into use, and another several lines are blueprinted; in addition, 8 more tunnels are to be built under the Huangpu River and 4 bridges are over it. A new means of transportation, Maglev train, has been completed. A 3-dimensined transportation system is just on the horizon.
The transportation system is equipped with modern facilities. Take buses for example. Almost every downtown bus has a bilingual stop-announcing loudspeaker or a visual display. Thus, the bus lines are addressing the problem of language barriers in an international city.
Since few people own private cars, most people still use buses for daily transport. Shanghai has a rather extensive system of bus lines. You can reach any part of the city by bus. The fare is reasonable so it is very convenient for the public.
