Family plays an important part in our life. Extended family, a typical large Chinese family in the past. In an extended family, several generations live under the same roof. In this way, young people can give their care to the elderly. Older adults might be more experienced and they can keep the family relationship between the members. They help taking care of the kids in the family. They feel they are useful and needed. But because of the generation gap, there will inevitably be more conflicts of ideas in the family. But in recent decades, nuclear family has taken the place of extended family. In a nuclear family, parents and children live together in the one household. They may feel and enjoy greater mobility and privacy. Because they have their own philosophy of life, their own way of filling leisure, and their own method of raising and educating children. So establishing their own household is to avoid disagreement and quarrels brought on by the generation gap. But this type of family also brings about some serious problems such as ˇ°little emperorˇ±, lonely old people and so on. |
